BNCAP tested both the 2-airbag and 6-airbag variants of the Baleno. The 6-airbag variant scored 26.52 out of 32 points in AOP, while the 2-airbag variant scored 24.04 points. In COP, both variants received 34.81 out of 49 points. Notably, the 6-airbag variant demonstrated improved protection in side-impact scenarios, highlighting the significance of additional airbags in enhancing occupant safety.

Global NCAP’s Perspective: A Zero-Star Rating

In contrast, the India-made Baleno received a zero-star rating in the Latin NCAP crash tests conducted in 2021. This rating was attributed to several factors, including poor side impact protection, lack of standard side head protection airbags, absence of Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and the decision not to recommend child restraint systems (CRS) for the test. The tested model was equipped with only two airbags, which contributed to its subpar performance in these tests.
